It was the day we celebrate for the maori new year.
We had an enormous feast waiting on the table.
We also had beautiful colourful tails hanging off the backs of the kites.
I was busting to go outside and fly my kite but when I went outside, the kite couldn’t fly so I tried to run with the kite but it turned out it wasn’t going to fly. The wind was light, and everyone's kites came down.
When Whaea Meri came out with her kite, it was flying right up in the sky, It was so high up in the sky that the kite nearly went all the way up to the clouds.
Gliding through the air went Whaea Meri’s kite went but when room 6 came out nearly Jade’s kite went as high as Whaea Meri’s kite.
When our fabulous kites were flying so well high up in the air, the bell rang, so we could have our huge feast waiting for us on the table. So we had to pull them in and get ready for our hakari.
Everybody was lined up from each year groups after karakia. The line was so long that I felt like going to sleep. When I made it up to the first table I could smell some delicious food coming from the first table.
Warm pumpkin soup was so delicious, I got me a cup of pumpkin soup
When we went to the next table it smelt more yummer. So I definitely took that plate from there.
Then Whaea Janet was giving out some crunchy fry bread.
I was so excited, I was busting with hunger.
